Canada Defends Obama

O Canada, Why Must Thou Interfere?

I guess the Canadian Prime Minister/Embassy/Interferers (is that a W phrase?) took this lyric from the National Anthem to heart: "O Canada, we stand on guard for thee."

Who knew anyone outside of the United States cared about the Democratic primaries? I mean, they care, but enough to instigate a smear campaign against one of the candidates?

In case you've missed it, or it's been outside your radar, it's a strange story. You can read the full details here. Essentially, Canadian Television Station CTV reported that an Obama campaign advisor told Canadian officials Obama was not serious about revising NAFTA. That it was all, wink wink nudge nudge, for the campaign.

Hillary's folks jumped all over this, despite denials from the Obama camp and the Canadian officials, like this one:

It seems fairly obvious who was really behind giving the story to CTV. Who benefits from Obama looking bad on NAFTA? Clinton. The vote in Ohio is likely to be close and dominated by concerns about NAFTA. Clinton is desperately trying to refute years of support of NAFTA and the only way to do that is to make the other guy look worse.

If you'll remember, President Clinton is in hot water for flying on the private jet of a Canadian investment banker to secure the guy mineral contracts in Kazakhstan and Colombia. The Canadian businessman donated $131 million to Clinton's charities and we still haven't seen the tax returns filed by the Clintons.

Sounds like NAFTA is paying off for the Clintons. I'm sure they'd rather we just blamed Canada.

The news just out from MSNBC, on Keith Olbermann's show, is that it was in truth the Clinton camp, not the Obama camp, that spoke with the Canadian government and told them Hillary's position on NAFTA should be "taken with a grain of salt" for political reasons. Hillary is the hypocrite, not Obama.
