FOX "News" Calls Michelle "Obama's Baby Mama"

The Huffington Post reports that FOX News has apologized for a chyron that read: "Outraged liberals: Stop picking on Obama's Baby Mama!" The super went up over video of Michelle Obama. According to Huff:

An alert reader wrote in just a little while ago to let us know about something he'd spotted on Fox News Wednesday afternoon. During a segment discussing conservative attacks against Michelle Obama, the wife of presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama, the network described the former as "Obama's baby mama."

I checked, and sure enough, as you can see below, our e-mailer was right. In fact, that description was displayed on screen several times during the segment, which featured anchor Megyn Kelly and conservative blogger Michelle Malkin, an FNC contributor.

This cracks me up. Of course, it's offensive (especially if you're a fan of the English language)(that phrase drives me crazy!) and FOX News should know better. But you know what? These things happen. I can see it now. Everyone sitting around in the newsroom, most people goofing off while some try and work. Suddenly, a producer sticks their head out of their pod and yells across the room: "Hey! Anybody know what to call this segment on Michelle Obama?"

Lots of suggestions start to roll in, at first serious. Then the newsroom clown has to have a go (usually this is the guy sitting in the edit bay who sticks his head out every five seconds to say something asinine). Pretty soon, people are joking and someone comes up with Obama's Baby Mama. The producer thinks, "That's great!" They hesitate knowing it's borderline offensive, but a quick check of the fellow morons in the newsroom reveals that they should go for it. (It always amazes me that people don't understand other's "approval" of their bizarre idea is often motivated by a desire to see them fail).

The next thing you know, there's the super on the air: Obama's Baby Mama. The producer is bragging to everyone. Until they get that call into the News Director's office.

I'll bet FOX News is hiring.
