Aw, Nutsy, That's Mighty Sweet: Jackson Apologizes to Obama

In case you missed it, Jesse Jackson had this less than flattering comment about Barack Obama that FOX news "just happened" to pick up:

Jackson: "See, Barack's been, um, talking down to black people on this faith based... I wanted to cut his nuts off."

Oops. Jackson has since apologized saying: "For any harm or hurt that this hot mic private conversation may have caused, I apologize. My support for Senator Obama’s campaign is wide, deep and unequivocal. I cherish this redemptive and historical moment."

Politico reports this statement from Obama's campaign:

“As someone who grew up without a father in the home, Senator Obama has spoken and written for many years about the issue of parental responsibility, including the importance of fathers participating in their children’s lives. He also discusses our responsibility as a society to provide jobs, justice, and opportunity for all. He will continue to speak out about our responsibilities to ourselves and each other, and he of course accepts Reverend Jackson’s apology,” said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.
There really isn't any excuse for this, and I find it hard to believe that a man of Jesse Jackson's experience would "forget" that he had a microphone on just before he's about to do a live interview. I can't think of what his reason for doing this would be other than to give us all something to talk about. Some suggest this is Jackson's way of doing Obama a favor so he doesn't have to court the Rainbow Coalition. I guess we can cross him off the VP list.
