McCain Rape Joke: Just McCain Being McCain

If you want someone for President who respects women than I suggest you look somewhere else when it comes to John McCain. His offensive jokes are piling up and the biggest one is coming back out into the light, one that may not be easily explained.

Back in 1986 Congressman McCain was quoted as telling the following joke to a conference of the National League of Cities:

"Did you hear the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly and left to die? When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sigh contently and to feebly ask, 'Where is that marvelous ape?'"
McCain's campaign at the time said that the Congressman didn't remember making the joke. Today, when Ben Smith at Politico did an article about McNotFunny's "sense of humor" the campaign had this to say:
"He's long said that he's said and done things in the past that he regrets," Rogers said. "You've just got to move on and be yourself — that's what people want. They want somebody who's authentic, and this kind of stuff is a good example of McCain being McCain."
Can you imagine if a joke like that came out about Obama? So far, McCain has been given a pass on calling his wife the "c" word, calling Chelsea Clinton ugly, and making jokes about bombing Iran and killing the Iranians with cigarettes.

Obama, one time, said people might be bitter that the government hasn't done enough for them and we're still hearing about it. Joking that women like to be raped? Ah, no big deal.

What a wonderful world we live in.
